Zum Jahrtausendwechsel brachte Nokia mit dem 3310 ein Gerät, das den Wünschen des jungen Zielpublikums voll und ganz entsprach: Es war sehr robust, der Akku hielt mehrere Tage, es war SMS-fähig, hatte Vibrationsruf sowie editierbare Logos und Klingeltöne. Das 3310 verkaufte sich mehr als 126 Millionen Mal. Das finnische Unternehmen Nokia stieg damit im Laufe der 2000er-Jahre mit bis zu 50% Marktanteil zum führenden Handy-Hersteller auf.
