In der Schmiede der Familie Franzoni in Bienno (Provinz Brescia) arbeitet der 85jährige Vater mit seinen drei Söhnen und einem Gehilfen. Sie stellen in Serienproduktion etwa 80 nach oben ausladende Eimer pro Tag her: Vorbereitung des Materials (Eisenplatten aus Schrottbeständen), Formen und Erwärmen der Platten, Hämmern mit Fallhammer (oberschlächtiges Wasserrad) zur Eimerform, Beschneiden, Endbearbeitung, Anbringen von Henkeln.
Working on a forge, whose origins date back to the XVII century A. D., the father and sons of an artisan family of Bienno in the province of Brescia, N. Italy, manufacture, metal buckets for brickwork. They work with slabs of re-usable iron, which are heated in a furnace adapted to naphtha oil-firing. The draught for blowing the furnace is created by an acient system based on the fall of water. The process begins with the preparation of the material. An iron slab is shaped to the form required for a container mould, into which flat beaten-out iron plates are inserted seven at a time. The batch is then heated and pounded into bucket form by a water-powered drop-hammer. After shearing and finishing, the buckets are fitted on two sides with handles and stacked one inside the other. The final product is much wider at the drop than at the bottom, a shape traditionally used for conveying mortar and other light building materials.
