Nach Bildung der Objektpermanenz erfolgt eine allmähliche Differenzierung des Objektbegriffs in Form- und Anordnungsaspekte. In Ermangelung eines stabilen Meßbegriffs können Abstand und Länge zunächst nicht klar unterschieden werden, auch in zeitlicher Hinsicht nicht. Am Ende der präoperativen Phase beginnt sich ein Bezugssystem zu bilden, dessen Entwicklung in der Phase der konkreten Operationen (vgl. Film C 1307) zum Abschluß gelangt.
A description of the development of thought from approximately one year of age until school age is given, using the original test instructions set by Jean Piaget, the Geneva psychologist. The major characteristic of this so-called "pre-operative-phase", is the child's growing comprehension of the world around it. The way in which the child slowly builds up the categories of object, space and time, required for a stable and reliable recognition of its environment is demonstrated.
