Die ersten Brustflossenstrahlen des Knurrhahns sind frei beweglich und dienen zum Laufen auf dem Meeresboden. Dabei stochern sie im Meeresboden nach Krebstieren, die von Geschmacksknospen an den Flossen wahrgenommen werden.
The first rays of the gurnard's pectoral fins can be moved freely and they serve for walking on the seafloor, raking for crustaceans which are perceived by the taste buds on the fins.
