»Law is the model and shape of the constitution« : Reflections on Law, Custom, and Political Order in Strabos Geographica
Zusammenfassung: In his Geographica, Strabo does not systematically address the topics of law, custom, and political order, but includes them as part of his cultural and historical descriptions. The author views law as essential to civilization and culture, associating it with the political order of city-states. He emphasizes that good laws ensure good governance, with Greek laws remaining the standard for civilization. Strabos perspective on law is primarily political and socio-cultural, with little focus on individual virtue, and no significant Stoic influence, despite his identification with Stoicism. His ideas reflect general Greek thinking on law during the late Roman republic and early principate
