Contractile Vacuoles

The activity of contractile vacuoles of amebas (Amoeba proteus), heliozoans (Actinophrys sol), flagellates (Chilomonas), ciliates (Blepharisma, Paramecium) and freshwater sponges (Ephydatia) is shown by means of cinemicrography - in some cases at extreme magnification. The complex system of contractile vacuoles found in Paramecium is illustrated by means of 3-dimensional animations.
