Trapping of Nematodes by Adhesive Branches of Monacrosporium cionopagum

The nematode-trapping fungus Monacrosporium cionopagum captures nematodes by sticky branches consisting of single- or multicellular, specialized hyphae. As shown in the film, the victim often touches the trap repeatedly until it finally attaches. The main emphasis of the film lies on the penetration of the nematode, which has been documented in time-lapse, and is explained further by electronmicrographs. Finally, the nematode is totally filled with tropic hyphae, and its contents is lysed and absorbed.
