Wie bei anderen ostafrikanischen Viehzüchtern hängt auch nach Auffassung der Hamar das Glück eines Mannes vom Schicksal seines Lieblingsochsen ab. Um seinen Ochsen zu lobpreisen, singt ein Hamar bei Tanzfesten stets ein selbstkomponiertes Lied über ihn. Im Film erläutert Choke, ein Hamar-Mann, die Liedinhalte, und Gardu, eine Hamar-Frau, die Choreographie der Tänze.
As among other East African pastoralists, in Hamar the good fortune of a man, his family and his herds is thought to be determined by the fate of his favorite ox. To glorify his ox, a man composes a special song and sings it whenever he attends a dance. Prominent in the film are Choke, a Hamar man, who provides insight into the meaning of the songs, and Gardu, a Hamar woman, who explains the choreography of the dances.
