Unbehandelte bzw. kiesgestrahlte Cr- und CrNi-Stahlbleche werden induktiv erhitzt. Zeitlicher Ablauf der Erweichung, der Tropfenbildung und der Spreitung auf den Blechen bei aufgelegten Glaspartikeln unterschiedlicher Oberflächenspannung und Viskosität. Einfluß chemischer Reaktionen auf die Benetzbarkeit.
The film shows the wetting of metal surface with glasses differing in surface tension and viscosity. Cr-steel and Cr-Ni-steel specimens on each of which is placed a glass particle, are heated in an induction coil. Due to heat transfer, the glass diminishes in viscosity, forms a spherical droplet and spreads out on the surface of the specimen. WIthout prior treatment of the metal surface chemical reactions take place so that the wetting process starts early. The film enables the entire process to be observed commensing with the first visible softening of the glass, followed by the formation of a droplet and ending with spreading of the glass. It elucidates the interfacial conditions at the beginning of the wetting process and the influence of surface layers on the spreading of the glass and hence on the adhesive conditions.
