El principio del interés superior del niño en las instituciones asistenciales: un acercamiento desde las concepciones de los profesionales

This paper presents a first approach to a principle for the best interest of the child in foster care institutions. It takes into consideration a series of interviews and field notes of these two institutions in central Mexico to explain how its professionals conceive the principle, present its application in children under foster care programs, and link it to issues such as family and education. It shows that this principle is closely linked to traditional ideas of childhood that eventually delimit it and position in it the voice of professionals. It concludes with three possible consequences for institutionalized children: to consider them subjects of protection, to stigmatize them, and to leave them to the will of adults.
