Der Film befaßt sich mit der Volksgruppe der Miao (Meng) und ihren Kindern, die in den Vororten Kunmings leben. Während ihre Eltern als Schuhputzer in der Provinzhauptstadt Yunnans arbeiten, wächst die zweite Migrantengeneration aus der benachbarten Guizhou-Provinz in einer Umgebung auf, die noch Schutz in Ritualen und Bräuchen sucht.
The film focuses on a Miao (Meng, Mhong or Hmong) community and their children living in the suburbs of Kunming City. As their parents work as shoe polishers in the provincial capital of Yunnan, the second generation of migrants from neighbouring Guizhou Province grows up in an environment that requires some rituals and customs as protection.
