Wasserflöhe sind Nahrungsstrudler, die mit ihren Beinen einen ständigen Wasserstrom innerhalb ihres zweiklappigen Carapax erzeugen und dabei als Nahrung geeignete Partikel herausfiltern. Bei angeklebten Tieren wird der Wasserstrom durch Tusche und Hefesuspensionen unterschiedlicher Stärke sichtbar gemacht. Während die Tusche den Carapaxraum mit dem Wasser wieder verläßt, werden die Hefepartikel von den Filterborsten aufgefangen und in der medianen Bauchrinne zum Mund transportiert. Mit Zeitdehnung.
