Tapirfisch. Die stark verlängerte Unterlippe ist sehr beweglich und dient der Nahrungssuche am Boden, an Wurzeln und Pflanzen. Beuteaufnahme durch Zustoßen mit dem Maul; Verhalten zu Artgenossen.
The film shows movements of the greatly lengthened lower-lip of the Gnathonemus petersi while searching for food on the bottom, on roots and water plants. The fish seizes the prey found (worms, mosquito larvae) by thrusting its round mouth forward and swallowing them. The search for dark hiding places by these twilight loving Mormyrides can also be seen. Gnathonemus petersi drives his fellow fish away with blows against the tail and fins, whereby even the intention of doing this often causes the rival to flee.
