O primeiro curso de graduação em letras língua brasileira de sinais: educação a distância
It started the first Brazilian Sign Language – LIBRAS – Undergraduate Program in Brazil in 2006. The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina is offering the course to train Sign Language Teachers. This is attending the law that requires the introduction of LIBRAS in the curriculum of Education and the Audiology Courses in all universities. The program had selected 500 students, with 447 Deaf students and 53 hearing bilingual students. These students are spread out around nine states in Brazil: Amazonas, Ceará, Bahia, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. These states are representing five districts from the country. It is an E-learing system. We are creating a system that use LIBRAS as the base of the education through different materials: virtual environment and DVDs. Also, the students have access to different kinds of readings that are also available with sign language explanation. All these structure is being planned with Deaf Instructional Designers together with other professionals. In this work, we will present how this process has being implemented.
