The film describes the locomotion and reproduction of Euglypha rotunda (Rhizopoda, Testacea), as it can be observed on the surface of agar plates. At first the general morphology of the thecamoeba is shown: the ovoid test is formed of silicious scales; the protoplast is stratified into three different zones, the anterior of which emits filopodia. Depending on the age of the cell, scales in growing number are stored in the cytoplasm, forming a perinuclear ring. These scales represent material for the construction of the new theca. The film then demonstrates the formation of the test, as well as nuclear and cellular division.
