Er stammte aus der damals zur Republik von Venedig gehörenden Stadt Brescia. Die Beziehungen zur Malerei eines Titians sind auffällig (Bild gleichen Themas in der Galleria Doria Pamphilj in Rom). Als spezifisch für Romanino gilt der dramatische Abschnitt rechts im Bild, der den Kopf des Henkers im Schatten zeigt – eine wahre Vorwegnahme Caravaggios.___________________________________________Romanino’s Salome follows a pictorial type that emerged in northern Italy in the 16th century: reflection about what has happened. However the dramatic light effects on the the right hand side of the picture that conceal the head of the executioner in shadow are unique to Romanino. A true anticipation of Caravaggio.
