Self-medication for minor illnesses and complaints has become very common in recent years. Patients make and drink herbal teas against colds, stomach aches and nervousness. But their university studies ill-equip pharmacists and doctors to cope with the demand for competent counselling in this area. This book was made to fill that gap. It contains solid, scientific information about 210 herbal drugs common in pharmaceutical practice and their constituents and indications, making the teas, authentication, and references to the corresponding phytopharmaceuticals. The book contains thorough listings and descriptions of synonyms, plant origins and currently seen adulterations. The general section treats such topics as herbal preparations (filter bags, tube teas and instant teas), making the tea, storage and keeping properties. Microbial, chemical and radioactive contamination are also discussed.
