Die japanische Bezeichnung dieses Themas ist "hyôtan kara koma ga deru" (Aus einem Flaschenkürbis kommt ein Fohlen heraus). Der Spruch bedeutet "von einem merkwürdigen Vorfall" und ist eine scherzhafte Verdrehung von "jôdan kara honma ga deru" - "aus Spaß wird Ernst" (Ehmann, 1927, S. 85, Nr. 828 und S. 112, Nr. 1061).
