Negativkontrastierung eines biologischen Objektes mit Uranylacetat. Abflottieren eines Kohleträgerfilms auf der Oberfläche einer Objektsuspension. An seiner Unterseite heften sich Objektpartikel an, die durch Überführen des Kohlefilms auf Wasser gewaschen und anschließend durch Flottieren des Films auf wäßriger Uranylacetatlösung negativkontrastiert werden.

Specimen particles are adsorbed to its underside, washing the adsorbed particles by floating the film on water, negatively staining them by floating the carrier film on aqueous uranyl acetate solution.
