Meeresplankton - Pilze (Fungi)

Zu den einzelligen Planktonorganismen zählen neben den Bakterien vor allem Algen, insbesondere die Kieselalgen (Diatomeen) und Panzergeissler (Dinoflagellaten), die in großer Formenvielfalt in allen Meeren vorkommen und durch ihre Fähigkeit zur Photosynthese als Primärproduzenten dominieren. Unter den Protozoen sind vor allem Radiolarien, Foraminiferen und einige Ciliaten vertreten. Neben Bakterien, Tieren und Pflanzen kommen im Plankton auch Pilze (Fungi) vor, die z.T. schlauchförmige Hyphen bilden. Sie ernähren sich von abgestorbenem organischem Material (Detritus) oder parasitisch, indem sie z.B. ihrem Wirt Körperflüssigkeit entziehen. Unicellular plankton organisms comprise bacteria, heterotrophic protists, and algae. Here, diatoms and dinoflagellates represent the bulk of photosynthetic primary producers. Protists are represented by radiolarians, foraminiferans and ciliates. Besides, bacteria, animals, and plants, there are also fungi in the plankton. They develop tubiform hyphae and thrive on decaying organic material (detritus), or live as parasites on or inside the bodies of their hosts.
