Das Stadtarchiv ist das historische Gedächtnis der Stadt Stockach und Anlaufstelle für Forschungen zur Stockacher Stadtgeschichte. Es ist zuständig für die Sicherung und Überlieferung städtischen Schriftguts, das rechtlich oder historisch einen bleibenden Wert besitzt.
Darüberhinaus werden auch nichtamtliche Archivalien verwahrt. So befinden sich im Stadtarchiv Stockach etwa Nachlässe, Deposita (Narrengericht, Familie von Krafft-Ebing) und das Fotoarchiv Hotz.
Aufgaben des Stadtarchivs sind die Übernahme, Bewertung, Erschließung, Erhaltung und Bereitstellung seiner Bestände. Es ist deshalb Ansprechpartner für alle, die zur Stockacher Geschichte forschen, arbeiten oder recherchieren.
