Das Historische Institut der Deutschen Bank nimmt die miteinander eng verbundenen Aufgaben der Erforschung der Geschichte der Bank und der Aufbewahrung ihrer historisch wichtigen Quellenbestände wahr. Das Historische Institut verfügt in seinem Archiv über rund 6.000 Regalmeter an Akten. Die ältesten dieser Unterlagen stammen von Vorläuferinstituten der Deutschen Bank aus der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Alle Archivunterlagen, die in der Zeit von 1848 bis einschließlich 1945 entstanden sind, stehen zur öffentlichen Benutzung für wissenschaftliche Zwecke zur Verfügung. Die Archivbenutzung ist ausschließlich nach vorheriger Terminabsprache möglich. Dem Archiv angeschlossen ist eine Präsenzbibliothek zur Bankengeschichte mit ca. 8.000 Bänden.
