Die pelagische Foraminifere Hastigerina lebt in subtropischen und tropischen Meeren. Die erwachsenen Tiere besiedeln das Oberflächenwasser. Sie ernähren sich karnivor. Zu Beginn der Fortpflanzung wird die Blasenkapsel eingeschmolzen, und es werden Stacheln und Septen reduziert. Die Foraminiferen sinken dabei bis auf ca. 200 m Tiefe, wo die Isogameten aus dem Kalkgehäuse quellen. Die jungen Tiere bilden ein neues Gehäuse und steigen während des Wachstums in das Oberflächenwasser, wo nach ca. 1 Monat, lunarperiodisch, ein neuer Fortpflanzungszyklus beginnt. Mit Trickgrafik.
The pelagic foraminifera Hastigerina inhabits tropical and subtropical seas. Adults inhabit surface waters and are carnivorous. At the initiation of reproduction the bubble capsule fuses and the barbs and septa are reduced. The formanifera thus sink to around 200 m depth, whereupon isogametes appear from the calciferous shell. The young form a new shell and rise during growth to inhabit the surfaces waters. The cycle lasts 1 lunar month. Including animated sequences.
