Politische Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung an Volkshochschulen. Spannungsfelder und Herausforderungen in der Programmplanung

Abstract: Nachhaltigkeit ist Teil des Bildungsauftrags deutscher wie auch österreichischer Volkshochschulen. Doch inwiefern spiegelt sich dies in den Bildungsprogrammen der Volkshochschulen wider? Im Rahmen einer explorativen Programmanalyse untersuchte der Autor die Bildungsprogramme einer großen deutschen Volkshochschule aus den Jahren 2014, 2015, 2019 und 2020 und führte mit zwei Mitarbeiterinnen der Programmplanungs- und Leitungsebene Expert*inneninterviews. Zentrale Ergebnisse seiner Untersuchung: Es gibt nur sehr wenige Angebote, in deren Ankündigungstext ein Bezug zu Nachhaltigkeit und Klimakrise erkennbar ist. Ist der Bezug eindeutig, handelt es sich überwiegend um Einzelveranstaltungen wie Vorträge. Der Bedarf an Bildungsangeboten zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit ist aus Sicht der Expertinnen zwar vorhanden, diese würden sich wirtschaftlich aber nicht rechnen, da sie nur angenommen werden, wenn die Kosten dafür gering sind. Abstract: Sustainability is part of the educational mission of German as well as Austrian adult education centres. Yet to what extent is this reflected in the educational programmes of the adult education centreß As part of an explorative programme analysis, the author examined the educational programmes of a large German adult education centre in 2014, 2015, 2019 and 2020 and interviewed two of its employees who are experts in programme planning and administration, respectively. The main findings of his investigation: There are very few course offerings in which a connection to sustainability and the climate crisis is clear from the course description. Those where the connection is obvious are overwhelmingly one-off events such as lectures. From the perspective of the experts, there is a need for educational offerings on the topic of sustainability, but they are not economically viable since they are only attended if the cost is low.
