Gedenkjahr 2014 – ein Auftrag an Gedächtnisinstitutionen : Ein Bericht über Aktivitäten der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek

Im Mittelpunkt der Aktivitäten der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek (ÖNB) zum Weltkriegs-Gedenkjahr 2014 stand eine große Ausstellung im Prunksaal, die von März bis November 2014 gezeigt wurde. Dabei konnte die ÖNB auf das reichhaltige Quellenmaterial aus der so genannten „Kriegssammlung“ der k.k. Hofbibliothek zurückgreifen, eine umfangreiche Sammlung unterschiedlichster Medien (von Druckschriften, Plakaten, offiziellen Kundmachungen, tausenden Fotos, bis zu privaten Postkarten, Erlebnisberichten und Schulaufsätzen), mit der man während der Kriegsjahre versuchte, eine möglichst umfassende Dokumentation zum Kriegsgeschehen aufzubauen. Daneben ist die ÖNB auch am EU-Projekt Europeana Collections 1914–1918 beteiligt. Sie sammelt und archiviert auf das Gedenkjahr bezogene Webseiten in ihrem Webarchiv und hat im Zeitungsdigitalisierungsprojekt ANNO einen Schwerpunkt zu den Jahren 1914–1918 gesetzt.
Abstract: The center of the activities of the Austrian National Library concerning the memorial 2014 was a large exhibition in the State Hall, which was shown from March to November 2014. It was based on the rich source material from the so-called “war collection” of the Habsburgian Imperial Court Library, an extensive rich collection of various media (books, pamphlets, posters, official pronouncements, thousands of photographys, private postcards, experience reports and school essays), with which they tried to build a comprehensive as possible documentation during the war years. In addition, the Austrian National Library is partner in the EU project Europeana Collections 1914–1918, collects and archives websites related to the commemorative year in its web archive and has set a focus to the years 1914–1918 in its newspaper digitizing project ANNO.
