Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) schrieb seine 8. Sinfonie, die er später als sein wichtigstes Werk bezeichnete, im Sommer 1906 in höchster Geschwindigkeit nieder. Im ersten Halbjahr 1907 wurde sie vollständig instrumentiert und ins Reine geschrieben. Die vom Komponisten selbst detailliert vorbereitete und dirigierte Uraufführung des Werkes fand am 12. September 1910 in der Halle I des Münchner Ausstellungsgebäudes statt. Sie wurde zum größten Triumph in Mahlers Künstlerleben. 500 Chorsänger, 350 Kinder und das verstärkte Orchester des Münchner Konzertvereins mit mehr als 140 Musikern waren beteiligt. Die Bayerische Staatsbibliothek konnte die großformatige autographe Partitur 1981 von der Tochter des Komponisten erwerben. Englische Version: In the summer of 1906, Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) wrote his 8th symphony, which he later described as his most important work, at the greatest speed. During the first half of 1907, it was completely orchestrated and copied out fair. The premiere of the work, prepared in detail and conducted by the composer himself, took place in Hall I of the Munich exhibition building on 12 September 1910. It turned into the greatest triumph in Mahler's artistic career. 500 choristers, 350 children and the augmented orchestra of the Munich Concert Society with over 140 musicians were involved. The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (Bavarian State Library) was able to acquire the large-format autograph musical score from the composer's daughter in 1981.
