Neoliberalization of nature: REDD+ carbon trade causes forest use conflict
Abstract: Neoliberal governance attempts to mitigate climate change have provoked controversy in forestry. The mechanism “reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation plus” (REDD+) is a performance-based payments scheme through which conservation incentives are given to local communities in the Global South. The REDD+ project in the Peruvian cloud forest Alto Mayo demonstrates how this marked based approach collides with rights based claims for environmental justice of the local community of indigenous Awajún
