Global wetlands in decline - causes, consequences & solutions
Abstract: Wetlands have come under significant pressure in recent decades, resulting in the loss of many wet ecosystems around the world and across climatic zones. Despite this loss, wetlands have received significantly less attention than other ecosystems such as forests or coral reefs, resulting in a lack of public awareness. Wetland ecosystems currently provide livelihoods to more than one billion people, support up to 40% of all species, and act as large carbon stores. This poster illustrates the underlying causes for the decline in wetlands, the resulting consequences for physical and social systems as well as possible solutions to this problem
