Dangerous Measures

Zusammenfassung: "Dangerous Measures is a memoir by Holocaust survivor Joseph Schwarzberg. Schwarzberg was born in Leipzig, Germany, in 1926, and as a child, witnessed the Nazis' rise to power and the increasing antisemitism, including the violent events of Kristallnacht on November 9-10, 1938. He and his family escaped to Brussels, Belgium, right before the outbreak of World War II, fleeing on to Paris and the countryside in France before returning to Brussels. There he obtained false identification papers and fled to France once again, helped by smugglers, escaping a summons by the Nazis for forced labour. In Vichy France, Schwarzberg narrowly escaped roundups and deportations of Jews, and joined the underground French resistance, fighting the Germans and sabotaging their war effort in the forests of France. Schwarzberg reunited with his family in Belgium and after the war immigrated to British Mandate Palestine/pre-state Israel, where he lived on a kibbutz and fought with the Haganah in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Joseph immigrated to Toronto in 1968 and established a garment business."--(Provided by publisher.)
