Tree-top signaling behaviour is characteristic of Macaca fuscata. It appears to serve a number of functions including signaling of one group to another of location and intention to move. Film shows tree shaking behaviour of males in two different colonies of Japanese macaques, and includes duration of action, rates and vigor of shaking, auditory and visual scanning of area, and tree shaking following copulation during breeding season.
