In this year, our Culture Hackathon Coding da Vinci starts in the south of Germany for the first time: 30 cultural institutions from Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg provide their data and contents under an open license to the culture hackers and invite you to the kick-off weekend on 6th/7th April 2019 in the Münchner Stadtbibliothek (Munich City Library).

Anyone familiar with the Culture Hackathon from previous years – it was launched in Berlin in 2014, jointly founded by the Forschungs- und Kompetenzzentrum Digitalisierung Berlin (Research and Competence Centre Digitalisation Berlin) (digis), the Deutsche Digitale BIbliothek (German Digital Library), the Open Knowledge Foundation Deutschland (Open Knowledge Foundation Germany) and Wikimedia Deutschland (Wikimedia Germany) – already knows what the participants can expect. For all the others, here is a short summary:

Coding da Vinci is the first German Hackathon for open cultural data: It connects technology-savvy and culture-loving communities with German cultural institutions in order to further develop the creative potential in our digital cultural heritage. From the kick-off to the award ceremony, participants have six to ten weeks time to develop their ideas and projects before presenting them to the plenary. In various categories – from the audience prize "everybody's darling" to "most technical", "best design", "funniest hack" or "most useful" – the prototypes will then be awarded by a jury. This year on 18th May 2019 in the “Tafelhalle” of the KunstKulturQuartier (Art-Culture-Quarter) in Nuremberg on 18th May 2019.

Have you become curious? We cordially invite old and new Culture Hackers to the kick-off – many exciting data sets will be awaiting you!
