Wir sind die DDB: Die Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Sachsen-Anhalt in Halle
Sie hat heute einen Bestand von mehr als 5,55 Millionen Bestandseinheiten. Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Sachsen-Anhalt in Halle (ULB is the largest scientific library in Sachsen-Anhalt and contains a correspondingly extensive old stock of historical books and maps. Today it has a portfolio of over 5.55 million stock units.
The library's main purpose is to provide scientific information and literature for members of the Martin-Luther-Universität (Martin Luther University.) In addition, it takes on the duties of a state library. Furthermore, the library oversees the "Specialist Information Service for Middle East, North Africa and Islamic Studies" funded by the German Research Foundation, which emerged from the former Special Collection Area (SSG) "Middle East" and develops and offers services in information science for national cutting-edge research from the mentioned subject area.
Within the framework of the project "User-oriented restructuring of the DDB", about 1,000 old maps with regional reference to Central Germany as well as maps from the area of the Middle East/North Africa were digitized and thus a particularly important part of their map collection was made available to a broad public. The project was funded by the Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media's NEUSTART KULTUR rescue and future programme.
